Our History

Shiloh Gospel Chapel, (which no longer exists) was a dying church for years. Pastor Gary Simons was on his way in September 2000 to begin his Ph.D. in Higher Education with a minor in Counseling at Indiana University. At that time he was working at the Bermuda College as Senior Counselor and Assistant Dean of Students in the Counseling & Career Centre. However, that same year, God called him to become the Senior Pastor of Cornerstone Bible Fellowship. Through prayer, God confirmed in Pastor Gary’s heart that now was the time to accept this offer to the Pastorate. The name, Cornerstone, was chosen by the previous leadership in June 2000 and at the same time, the church changed from Brethren to non-denominational.

Pastor Gary was led to close the existing church at the time and discontinue all ministries that began under Shiloh Gospel Chapel for prayer and fasting for the new ministry of Cornerstone Bible Fellowship in three weeks before the first Sunday in September 2000.  On September 3, 2000, a dedication was held under the new ministry with new leaders, Pastor Gary Simons and Pastor Eversley Lewis and previous pastor, Elder Will Francis, who presently serves as an Advisory Elder. Pastor Joel Benevides from Calvary Gospel Chapel, the previous fellowship of the new pastors, charged them to this new ministry. We thank God for His faithfulness over the past eight years to build his church. By God’s grace he brought people from over 22 countries and various ethnic groups together to do the work of God in these last days.

Prior to accepting the pastorate, Pastors Gary and Eversley met with Jim Cymbala, Senior Pastor of the Brooklyn Tabernacle Church, NY, in May 2000 to obtain Godly counsel about this potential ministry opportunity at Cornerstone. As a result a friendship was formed and two years later, Pastor Cymbala accepted Pastor Gary’s request for him to be a mentor for this new ministry and later became the Overseer of Cornerstone Bible Fellowship as a “sister church” of the Brooklyn Tabernacle Church, NY.
